A Greater Need For Specialist Dementia Care Individuals living with dementia should possess equal rights in decision making, concerning how they live their lives. We at Homecare are continually striving to assist their needs through the sharing of information and raising awareness of their situation. With our two new Specialist Dementia Care Trainers, we will be training all our new and existing staff to: - Improve their knowledge of dementia, its causes, signs and symptoms - Recognize the differing ways that dementia affects individuals - Understand how a person centred care approach can make a difference to the care that our staff provide - Identify what specialist care a person with dementia may require - Think of ideas and methods that our staff can use to improve the wellbeing of people with dementia in our care. This training will be rolled out over the next 12 months, and will provide a practical introduction to dementia care. We will assess what the experience of dementia may be like for those afflicted, both physically and emotionally and how it affects family carers. We will consider how to communicate effectively with individuals living with dementia, trying to understand their needs and behaviours. They will acquire a comprehension of some of the early symptoms of dementia and recognition of dementia as an individual experience that cannot be generalised. With confident and knowledgeable Care Assistants in the field of dementia, family members and carers feel more at ease and anxiety levels are greatly reduced.
