Working for Homecare, it's not just a job, it's a career PDF Print E-mail
I spent a number of years working part-time for acompany based near my home in Carrickfergus. In 2002 I went back to study part-time for 2 years to further my education, gaining a B-TEC in Health & Social Studies, but unfortunately the company could not offer me the challenge and prospects that I was looking for. In 2004 I decided a needed a little extra cash and applied for ‘Part-time Care Assistant’ job with Homecare.

In the short space of time that I had been working with Homecare I found that they were a well structured and organised company and when they offered me a full time position I was delighted to accept.

As Homecare grew in my area so did their reputation. The high standard of care being delivered and professional appearance of their staff was making an impact with the clients and their family and friends and word quickly spread that they were a reputable and reliable company. After 4 months working as a Care Assistant I heard that the position for Supervisor had been advertised and I applied. Following my interview I was offered the position and readily accepted. With the help and support of my Co-ordinator, Victoria, and Locality Manager, Nuala, I quickly grew in confidence and settled into my role as

Supervisor for the Homefirst area (Co. Antrim). A few months later Homecare introduced the NVQ - Level 2 in ‘Caring’ to their staff; I achieved this and also went on to complete Level 3 with Homecare. A post for Co-ordinator was then advertised, again I applied. I was offered the position and gladly accepted. Within the past 10 months I was given the opportunity to gain the qualification ‘Train the Trainer’ and ‘Moving and Handling’ and I have also started the NVQ - Level 4.

When I look back to where I was 3 years ago, in a dead end job with no prospects, I’m so glad I made the move to Homecare who

have given me so many new opportunities. I now have more qualifications under my belt and can share my knowledge and experience as the Coordinator in the area where I once worked as a Care Assistant.

My experience has proved to me that Homecare don’t just want people to work for them, they want to invest in their staff and give them the opportunity to further their career.

Working for Homecare isn’t just a job; it can be a

career if you want it to be!
