paulmgrirr.jpgThe Spirit of Paul McGirr and Homecare work together to improve lives in Africa.

Established by the young people of Dromore, on the 10th Anniversary of this Tyrone Minor’s death in 1997, The Spirit of Paul McGirr is a fund supported by the McGirr family and the Tyrone County Board.

The Spirit of Paul McGirr Fundraising Banquet was held in the Armagh City Hotel on the 23rd November 2007. Homecare collaborated with other prize-donors to help raise funds to support the work of the Trust.

The Spirit of Paul McGirr is currently assisting the development and sustainability of the Chainda community in Lusaka, Zambia through facilitating economic, social and education activities. In 2007 alone over 27 volunteers have travelled to Zambia to impart their skills in building and plastering and will soon be followed by electricians and plumbers who will continue the work. 11 teachers provided a summer school with a combination of education and sporting activity. The equipment for a bakery, woodwork workshop, a dental clinic and agricultural tools have been allocated, and a significant amount of educational materials have also arrived. Volunteers are at present being sought for a Programme of Skills Training in 2008.
