NISCC: Northern Ireland PDF Print E-mail

Northern Ireland Social Care Council is an independent public body, striving to increase standards and promote training and development for the social care workforce in Northern Ireland.

The Council has developed a comprehensive set of induction standards, which establish the primary essentials a Social Care Worker is required to know to enable them to complete their job safely and effectively. Homecare has continually taken pride in the quality of its Induction Training Programmes, and welcomes the opportunity for continued improvement that the NISCC Induction Standards so clearly provide. To ensure compliance with the standards, our Quality Manager has established a Training Focus Group with members from all departments and all levels within the organisation. Focusing initially on Care Assistant Induction, the Training Focus Group has produced a comprehensive set of Induction Workbooks that will enable all care staff to develop and evidence the competencies required to provide high quality care. The Training Focus Group is acutely aware that induction is more than just theory based learning. In light of this we are currently working toward an implementation programme that will see each new worker participating in a six months Learning and Improvement Programme based on the keyprinciples of knowing, showing and doing. Through this programme each worker will be allocated a mentor who will provide development and welfare support in conjunction with a structured supervision and assessment plan.

We are also working closely with EGSA to develop a Key Skills Support Programme that is tailored to the specific needs of

care and support workers.
